Wired & Wireless networking
The
easiest and best way to share your Broadband
connection is to use a router. Routers provide
you with the ability to share your Broadband
connection with multiple networking devices such
as computers, gaming consoles & network cameras.
When considering a router, you have the option
to connect computers to your Broadband internet
connection either "wired" or "wirelessly". Wired
requires you to run Ethernet cabling around your
house/office while wireless allows you to access
your Broadband connection without wires.
Considerations:
-
Wireless Distance - we cannot guarantee you
wireless distance. Our rule of thumb is
these routers are capable of providing a
good wireless signal in a modern 5 bed home.
If your interior walls are plasterboard then
expect the signal to go through about 2-3
walls & if your interior walls are brick
then expect the signal to go through about 2
walls within a 15m radius.
- Ideal placement for the
router is to be centrally located within the
home/office. This allows you to get the most
out of the wireless signal.
- Setting up a network,
especially a wireless one, should be fairly
straight forward. However, there are many
performance and security issues to be
considered, and lots of potential for
problems, which means that often people call
upon the skills and experience of XMS.
